Nobina signs 10-year agreement with VR for replacement traffic for Norrtåg
From December 2025 to December 2035, Nobina will be fully responsible for replacement traffic as part of train operator VR’s new contract for Norrtåg. Among other things, the agreement includes further development of Nobina’s real-time platform for replacement traffic.
Nobina already holds a similar responsibility for the Norrtåg system today and has developed several solutions to improve passenger information during service disruptions. This includes full integration with the Swedish Transport Administration’s national access point for replacement traffic, as well as a website providing real-time updates on all replacement traffic for Norrtåg .
Under the new agreement, Nobina and VR will establish close collaboration in both traffic planning and traffic management, including system integrations to ensure that VR’s employees always have full visibility of both current and planned replacement traffic.
This is the first agreement between Nobina and VR in Sweden and will run for ten years, from December 2025 to December 2035.
“We are thrilled to sign this agreement with VR in Sweden for the important replacement traffic for Norrtåg. This marks a strengthened partnership between Nobina and VR, ensuring reliable replacement traffic together,” says Martin Pagrotsky, Managing Director Nobina Sweden.
Johan Oscarsson, Managing Director of VR Sverige AB, agrees:
“We feel confident that Nobina will continue to manage replacement traffic for Norrtåg. Their passenger-focused information solutions make it easier for travelers when disruptions occur in train traffic and we need to deploy buses instead.”
The agreement strengthens Nobina’s presence in northern Sweden and enables expanded collaboration with partners in the region. Nobina currently operates in Västernorrland and Norrbotten, and from 2026, also in Västerbotten County.
