Nobina is the largest in the Nordics in terms of experience and contracts for operating regional traffic. We are proud of that because regional traffic has a very important and structural mission to offer good commuting opportunities to the cities from the countryside. The travelers are primarily school students and work commuters who need public transport with reliable punctuality and efficiency. Traffic is at its most intense in the morning and afternoon during rush hour, and a great deal of know-how is required to meet the needs of regional traffic in terms of traffic planning and accessibility.

Large cities across the Nordic region share the same challenges in terms of accessibility, traffic intensity, noise and emissions. The main cause is increased car use and a lack of prioritization of street space for sustainable modes of transport. Investments in increased frequencies, bus lanes, well-placed bus stops and signal prioritization are crucial for city bus traffic to maintain - and increase - their competitiveness, so that they can both meet passenger needs and contribute to reducing emissions and noise. The city traffic operated by Nobina is now mainly fully electric, quiet and planned for optimal efficiency, frequency and punctuality throughout the day.

Within BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), Nobina has the most experience in the Nordic region among all established operators. We have also been a strong driving force in developing the BRT concept, which is based on city bus traffic being a very strong priority, with extra large buses that can accommodate a large number of passengers, extra high frequency of trips, boarding at all doors and clearly prioritized lanes. Nobina has been involved in developing the first guidelines for the concept (Guidelines BRT) which describe and rank good examples and requirements for a BRT model.

Nobina is the largest provider of replacement services in the Nordic region and, together with more than 500 local bus and taxi companies, operates emergency and planned replacement services for metros, local trains, trams, commuter trains and long-distance passenger trains on most lines in the Nordic region. We plan the route network, timetables and traffic information, and organise, manage and monitor operations. From the moment the disruption becomes known until the train service is running as planned again. In total, we organise over 100,000 replacement buses every year.

Nobina's solution is based on tried and tested processes carried out by experienced employees specialising in replacement traffic. We have the market's most advanced system support for replacement services, which links traffic management, customer services, train guards, bus drivers and passengers in real time with shared information on orders, timetables and current positions.

Our experience with school bus services has increased in recent years, thanks to more school transport contracts. School bus traffic has largely the same needs as regular regional bus traffic, but needs to meet greater requirements for safety, security and accessibility. Together with clients, we have developed special support to improve both co-planning and information for travellers and parents. Värmlandstrafiken has been a particularly close and committed partner in this work, which we want to extend to other areas. We also have good experience of closer dialogue with schools about school start times, and we drive efficiency improvements and transfers to regional traffic when it is profitable and there are good synergy effects.
